UHA is an international architecture and design studio based in London, managing projects across the Americas, Asia and Europe. Established in 2011 by Jonas Upton-Hansen, the firm initially focused on the luxury residential market in London but grew rapidly to take on larger projects both in Europe and Asia, with a particular emphasis on high rise structures as well as large scale mixed-use developments. Ricardo Mateu formally joined UHA in 2013 as Director, to assist with the day-to-day running of the firm.

The studio is involved in a wide range of projects varying in context, function and scale that encompass architecture, masterplanning, and interior design. UHA energetic and optimistic approach to design is a constant endeavour to improve the quality of the built environment by focusing on specific elements such as natural light, clean lines and spatial sequences that enhance both private and public domains. Each project and every client is different and present their own set of challenges, which result in unique developments, singular in form and expression, but at the same time, functional and efficient.

UHA’s core design and management team of 50+ architects and designers is based in central London, with satellite offices in Mumbai (India), Limassol (Cyprus) and Lisbon (Portugal) dedicated to projects and clients within those geographic regions, and representation in Moscow and Mexico City overseeing significant projects in each locale.

Working Method

UHA works almost exclusively in 3D — using advanced digital tools and programmes, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other parametric design software tools, used throughout all stages of the design process — to create highly detailed models incorporating graphic, physical, commercial, environmental and operational data. These tools ensure complete coordination with all other design disciplines and that all project requirements, services and technical aspects of the design are fully and seamlessly integrated.

Enabling clients and other stakeholders to understand the architectural vision from the early stages of the design process is vital. With this in mind, UHA has a dedicated modelling and visualisation team who can produce highly detailed photorealistic computer-generated imagery, animations and rapid prototype 3D prints (physical models) within a minimal timeframe. The resulting presentation material allows clients not only to understand or visualise the project but also in many cases, provides imagery of the highest quality for the subsequent marketing of the project.

From its London headquarters, UHA is truly international in reach, with extensive experience of designing and delivering projects across three continents. Working alongside leading international consultants and specialists, we provide the highest quality professional design services to generate economically and environmentally sustainable developments. UHA collaborate with local/regional architects and consultants, who advise on local customs and regulations, and remain in close contact throughout the design and construction programme to ensure that the original design intent is carried through into the built projects.
